Continued in hill-climbs until the 1930's, then worked as an engineer. He also worked as a boat manufacturer for a short while. Mulford was one of the greats of 1910's racing and was believed by some to have won the 1911 Indianapolis 500, a race he never did end up winning despite numerous wins between 1910 and 1919. Ralph joined Lozier as an apprentice mechanic in 1901, also working as a fitter and panel beater. Through the company, he got a chance to race but it wasn't until an injury to lead driver Harry Michener saw Mulford, his replacement, shine. Mulford retired for good after the 1926 Indianapolis 500 and attempted to become a car manufacturer but it didn't go well. All of his success was achieved despite not racing on Sunday due to his religious beliefs.
