A car salesman, most notably for Mercer. The E H stood for Edward Hoag. Sherwood got his drives through his Mercer links, driving for no other car manufacturer but them. He drove himself at a race for Mercer at Long Island in October 1910, finishing fourth, before his appearance at Indianapolis the next year as a back up driver for the firm. Subsequently, he ended up relieving Charlie Bigelow for some laps in the first ever Indianapolis 500.
