Mechanic who worked at a local car manufacturer, then became a car salesman. Had some success at minor races in Indiana. From 1920 onwards, Mac worked in the oil business, as a salesman and promoter, a job which would subsequently take him to California and Texas before his death at the relatively young age of forty-eight. McVey's very brief stab at racing at Indianapolis came when he entered a Hudson but he failed to qualify.
