Father of Norm and later helped him with his career. Was almost exclusively a riding mechanic as most of his motorsport spell was spent as a mechanic and car builder. Houser was a great help to Clessie Cummins in the car builder's early days of the sport, serving as a mechanic and engine tuner, before staying involved as a pit and design crew member during the 1930's. Houser's 1940 census entry lists him as an experimental engineer which is a good description of Thane's forward thinking and tinkering with engines. The majority of Houser's racing was spent as a relief driver and riding mechanic; amongst those he supported were Wade Morton, Louis Chevrolet, Ralph Mulford and Dave Evans.
