Sidekick to Barney Oldfield and was heavily involved in race promoting/officiating and Oldfield's tyre business. Full name was Ernest Waldo. He was also a tyre engineer. He died of liver failure, but sadly his last year was spent somewhat in disgrace as he was at his death, under indictment for attempting to rob a bank, which he put down to his failing mental and physical health.
