A.B. stood for Artha Benson. Died whilst on his winter break in Florida when he suffered a heart-attack. Litz spent many years as a stunt driver. He started racing with his own home-made car on dirt-tracks just after the First World War in county fairs before progressing onwards, often his own creations. He performed many speed records and tyre tests, which brought him a number of business link-ups, often racing on tyres from local dealers, rather than official makes. He retired from racing after his last Indianapolis 500 in 1941. A regular after-dinner speaker, Deacon was an oval specialist, mainly on dirt tracks. His best result in 12 attempts at Indianapolis was fourth in 1934.
