Relief driver based in St.Louis. Flew fighter planes in World War 1, and was a noted local aviator, although he survived a plane crash in 1922 in which his passenger died. Also worked as a chauffeur and had business links with Herbert Scheel, which saw him get his chance at Indy. Died only a few years after his Indy attempt when he was attempting an aeroplane refueling endurance record - the aeroplane, having just being topped off with fuel, crashed on takeoff.
