An ambulance driver in World War 1 for the Red Cross, he was killed in action. Son of a eminent lawyer, Mason was often referred to as the son of the Mason Car Company's President, but the name was just a coincidence. George started racing in 1912, largely for fun and enjoyed long-distance endurance races. A quite chubby chap, Mason was a very consistent finisher, racing mostly for the Ogren-Duesenberg firm. Mason then volunteered to serve his country, using his driving skills accordingly.
