Technical expert of BMW who took up the role of motorsport director for their Formula 1 challenge. Retired during winter 2010 and is now a consultant to BMW. Theissen is a qualified mechanical engineer who worked in the engine department of BMW when he joined them in 1977. He later gained a doctorate in engineering which saw him move swiftly upwards with the firm. In 1999, Mario became BMW's joint Motorsport Director, with involvement in sportscars and touring cars as well as looking after the firm's engine supply, before moving to take over when BMW took over Sauber and ran their own project for a while.
