Involved with Daimler for years, as a designer, engineer and general manager until his retirement in 1977. Scherenberg was a qualified mechanical engineer who became a test engineer at Daimler-Benz in 1935. He had involvement with the first DB 601 direct-injection engine with direct fuel injection, which the company developed in 1937. After the Second World War, he worked for Gutbrod, again concentrating on direct petrol injection in a car, the Gutbrod Superior. He then returned to Daimler until 1977 and also served as a University professor.
