Despite his death, his widow continued a number of projects in his name, including a school, which still exists to this day. Killed in a practice accident for an event on an autobahn, he was a long time racer, one of the best racers from East Germany, winning the 1951 East German Formula 2 title. Greifzu raced motorcycles back in the 1930's before moving onto sportscars. After World War Two he became well known for building his F2 single-seater specials. After his death, the Dessau athletics and football stadium was named in his honour and still carries his name today and in its history it has seen teams like Bayern Munich and Leeds United play there.
