An all-time great, Rose moved to California after retirement in 1951. Not only did he make many reunions, but he also continued to drive on occasions. He kept up a long engineering linkup with General Motors, becoming a major force behind Chevrolet's success and also found time to do some racing tutelage. Unfortunately two of his children were left disabled by polio but Rose turned it into a positive, developing hand control devices for handicapped drivers of road cars and designing exercise devices to help both his children and other children in their therapy and development.
