Later worked for Tucker Corp. in Illinois. Raced as Bennie Benefiel. Quit the sport after his racing mechanic, Harry Cox, was killed in the 1932 Indy qualifying attempt when Benefiel crashed. Benefiel, whose name was often spelt as Benefield, was a regular racer in big cars in the 1920's, racing alongside the likes of Frank Sweigert and Ira Hall in the so-called Hoosier Outlaw Circuit; which saw Indiana drivers race at dirt tracks like Jungle Park and Sunflower Park.
