Died in hospital from horrific injuries sustained when he hit the wall at Indianapolis during a practice session. A verstatile racer, he was a regular in sprint cars, but also raced in sportscars, semi-modified and stock cars from 1955 onwards. Jim, who was based in Denver played American Football and Baseball at college level before becoming a racing driver, although for some years he worked in an office in a well-paid job before quitting to be a full-time racer. His brother Jerry was a racing car builder and preparer.
