A very successful New York stockbroker, he was a partner of Francis I. Dupont and Co. A tall, big and softly spoken chap, his love of cars lasted his whole life - he often drove to work in Bentley's, Ferrari's and Maserati's. He worked for Indian Motorcycles, then joined Dupont as a clerk, then tested cars for them and worked as an engineer, and then raced for the company. Later became a managing partner at the firm, which curtailed most of his racing activities, but he continued in sportscars until 1959. Later served as the head of ACCUS and did lots of good work for motor racing in the US, and also served as a representative at the FIA/CSI, as well as being President of the SCCA in 1954-1955. He was also the first American born driver to appear at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
