Later based himself in Kansas, with many of his family going on to race. Tony was particularly unlucky in the 1928 Indianapolis 500, as he had a comfortable lead with eighteen laps left, when his fuel line ruptured. In the event, third place in the previous year's 500 proved his best result there. Gulotta proved himself as a stable but fast driver, with his annual effort at Indianapolis his main racing event of the year, but he was also a very capable board track racer in the 1920's.
