Helped into the sport by Harry Hartz, he later became a member of the US Air Army Corps. Jones had only a brief racing career, racing in 1926 and 1927 in AAA events. He largely raced on board ovals and took an impressive third in the Atlantic City raced in 1926. He died in a military plane crash, along with eight others, when the Army Corps training mission went horribly wrong. As well as his military service, Ben also worked as a plantation manager on a cotton farm.
