Dirt track specialist, a privateer who also raced in oval races occasionally. He entered his Preston car, powered by a Morton and Brett engine for the Indianapolis 500 and also for a dirt oval AAA race at Springfield in 1936, but failed to qualify both times. Floyd lived virtually his whole life in Tennessee (bar a spell in New Orleans, Louisana), but his family were originally from Kentucky. As well as racing, O'Neal worked as a copper solder, a dredge boat engineer before becoming an engineering manager.
