Later ran and taught a mechanical shop class in Houston, Texas for some years. A midget racer, he had a long career in the sport. Homeier served in the US Navy during World War Two after completing his education before taking up racing in 1946. In 1954 to further his midget career, Bill moved to Pasadena, California which accordingly ended up having a boost in his results. Homeier eventually retired in the early 1960's to take up his teaching role. Sadly he suffered tragedy when his wife was killed in an accident in 1969 which Bill was lucky to survive. He was a keen fan of boats and owned a small pier at his home on Tres Palacios Bay.
