Raced from 1938 until 1957, mainly in midgets and sprints. George left his family home as a boy and then lived and travelled on freight trains until he reached Detroit. Lynch had no driving experience of any sort when he started racing, so his first race was also the first time he was behind the wheel of any automobile! Nicknamed 'The Red Devil', he served in the 11th Airborne Paratrooper regiment in the Pacific and Japan in World War 2, becoming a technical sergeant. He later raced in NASCAR, before retiring and becoming a mechanic and consultant and also enjoyed his fishing. Died after a battle with dementia.
