Bill was a racing director for Mobil Oil Logistics and a director of USAC's stock-car program. He also worked as a rep for Simpson's Racing equipment and had a long link with NASCAR, until just before his death in 2004. As a driver he also made World Land Speed Record attempts. Bill was a licensed chief steward and his NASCAR link was, in more detail, being a member of their National Racing Commission. As a result of his work for them, he was a recipient of the Buddy Shuman Award, one of NASCAR's key awards. During one of his land speed record attempts at Daytona Beach, Taylor met a female racing driver, Nicki Griffin, whom he subsequently married; the two remained together until Bill's death.
