Became a Formula 1 tester for Williams and Michelin but found no long-term ride. After a brief Champ Car career, he raced in the Australian V8 Supercar series. Max has now been back in Brazil for a while and racing touring cars and GT cars, as well as working as a racing instructor. From 2020, he stopped racing in stock cars and worked as a commentator in his homeland on Formula 1 and on stock cars, but in 2021, he was drafted back to race in a few events. Of German ancestry but of Brazilian parentage, Max came very close to racing for Minardi in 2000 but didn't have the financial backing to secure the drive.
