Now retired from driving after a spell in NASCAR and Craftsmen trucks. Still living in the USA, where he runs Hattori Racing Enterprises, which competes in the NASCAR Junior Series, and also in NASCAR trucks. The firm also helps promote Japan and young Japanese drivers in US racing. Shige survived the dreadful earthquake in Japan in 2011, when visiting his family at home, but it put his racing plans back a good 18 months. Hattori is a popular fellow who moved to the US in 1996 to race in Indy Lights after a couple of seasons in Japanese Formula 3.
