A mechanic and engineer, he later worked on developing a new braking system in 1936, amongst many other patents. The braking system was developed and referenced by the Bendix Aviation Corporation in the 1950's. He also invented a piston in 1923 for an internal combustion engine, an aircraft landing gear construction device in 1942 and a wheel cylinder actuator in 1939. Although Italian born, Franchi lived all his adult life in New York City and it is where he died in 1958.
