Named in 2024 as Ferrari technical director with the responsibility for chassis design and performance, Serra is a qualified mechanical engineer. He started working with Michelin in both Germany and France, before moving to the company's research and development base in Clermont-Ferrand. His work developing suspension systems in 2002 brought him within the F1 paddock, working with Michelin until their F1 withdrawal in 2006. After a spell with BMW Sauber, he joined Mercedes, working as performance director, before joining Ferrari.
