Worked with DAMS in Formula 3000, then worked with Henri Pescarolo's GT team as an engineer. Most recently he was at Frederic Gabillon's Euro Whelen NASCAR outfit as a race engineer and crew chief, after a similar role with Eric Helary's team in previous years. He retired from that role, and motorsport, at the end of the 2016 season after forty years in the sport, but in a surprise move, returned back to the discipline and the series in 2020. Galopin worked for Ligier as a mechanical and race engineer for some years but his design work didn't really take off until he joined AGS in 1989. He also worked again as a race engineer before rejoining Ligier in a similar role, working with Philippe Alliot, before again doing some work on the design of the car. After a disappointing 1991 for the team, Claude moved to DAMS, where he remained for some while, and designed the abortive F1 car they had looked at racing around 1995/1996.
