Caterham team principal for a little while. Before this role, Cyril was formerly with Renault F1 in a number of managerial positions. However, in 2014, when Caterham had a change of ownership, Abiteboul left and rejoined Renault, and specifically, their engine development department. Cyril's background is that of an aerospace and aeronautical engineer originally but in 2007, after six years with Renault in an engineering capacity, Cyril became business development manager for the Renault F1 team. In 2016, Abiteboul's role changed slightly when he left France to be based at Enstone to co-ordinate the UK side of the team, therefore becoming less involved with the engine development. He left the company in 2021 to become technical adviser to the Mechachrome engine concern. In 2022, he took over as Hyundai's World Rally Championship boss, taking on a more senior role in the company in 2023.
