Joined Bentley as a 15 year old, which had been newly founded, as a shop boy - the 14th employee at the business, starting off as a fitter in the engine department, before moving to chassis work. He then worked on testing, and became a riding mechanic, as well as working on the road car division. He worked closely with Woolf Barnato, and when Bentley disbanded, Hassan joined Barnato in developing a racing car, something he would later do for Bill Pacey. Hassan then joined ERA, working specifically on engine development, and also worked in a similiar role for Jaguar and Bristol Engines, before joining Coventry-Climax. There, working with Harry Mundy, they built a very successful engine. Later worked for Jaguar until 1972, when he retired. Later awarded the OBE for his services to motorsport.
