Still keeps links with the sport. Now lives in California, where he used to run a repair shop. Better known as a sportscar and Can-Am (Motschenbacher has more Can-Am starts than any other racer) driver, his career ended early due to injury. He took up racing in the early 1960's, carrying on until 1974 and was often seen in a range of Elva's. Lothar moved to the United States in 1956, initially working as a Mercedes-Benz mechanic, before establishing his own business. He was also particularly strong in Formula Junior. Lothar survived a fire in 1973 at his garage, escaping with minor burns. Lothar also had a very brief career in NASCAR.
