Still alive and well. Raced on until 1994, despite burns received in the 1964 MacDonald-Sachs crash inferno. A true legend of US motor racing, Johnny still has many interests and job roles - he makes speaking appearances and works as a consultant to the IRL, for whom he is the pace car driver. Also works as a consultant for Pennzoil, in TV and as a racing instructor at the Indy Legends Driving School, although he is also establishing a performance driving school in the Fort Worth area, where he grew up and is best identified with, as opposed to his birthplace. He also has a business which manufactures skin products for racers. In his spare time(!), he likes to paint and restore vintage racing cars. In 2017, he was named as McLaren's ambassador for publicity and marketing for their Indianapolis 500 attempt.
