Decent racer who got a number of fine results in both AAA and non AAA events. Generally was best on dirt tracks, shown by a fine second place at Syracuse's dirt oval track in 1931. This helped Ross finish eleventh in the AAA standings that year, and he came in 12th place the following year after more consistent performances. Later lost a leg due to diabetes. Ross often drove cars for William Yahr after Yahr realised he wasn't going to do as well as Ross as a racer. Although Ross himself was born, bred, lived and died in Michigan, his mother was from Canada and had English and German ancestry and his father, a decorator, was also of German ancestry. Ross himself worked as a mechanic.
