Raced for over ten years and was also a car owner and entrant. Very much a dirt-track specialist, he won a title in 1933 in the discipline. Chittum largely concentrated on racing in his home state of Ohio. He later ran a motorcycle dealership before his early death. He built both his own cars and was an engine expert. Bill failed to qualify his G and P entered Hudson for the 1934 Indianapolis 500 but he did pop up again, five years later, in a dirt oval event at Springfield, Ohio.
