Bonadeo became a US citizen in 1921, and was also known as Giuseppe. Bonadeo appeared in the Indianapolis 500 as a relief driver for Juan Antonio Gaudino. Joseph drove five laps in the Golden Seal Chrysler. Bonadeo had a long history as a mechanic in the sport as in 1921, he also appeared at Indianapolis as the riding mechanic to Percy Ford as Ford drove brilliantly to take third at the '500. Bonadeo also attempted to race in Europe, failing to qualify for his home-town Grand Prix at Alessandria in 1929.
