Killed in a testing accident. A young and enthusiastic driver, he raced in dirt track racing for a couple of years. Herbert worked at the Haag Drug Company in Indianapolis and one of his jobs was to be the chauffeur to Miss Leonore Haag. The friendship the two struck up led to Miss Haag financing Jones the funds to buy a racing car, which enabled Jones to quit his day job and go racing. An Indianapolis boy through and through, he studied at Benjamin Franklin school there but suffered tragedy as his father died when he was young.
