Died in hospital after a crash at Rockingham. Also trained and then worked as a mechanic, most notably for Chevrolet. Fred then served in the US Army during World War One and continued as a mechanic before starting racing in the early 1920's. Comer gained a reputation as a board track speciailist which soon led to him making a number of impressive results, often at the Altoona Speedway, but it was at Atlantic City in 1926 where he actually won what ended up being his only Championship victory.
