Also known as Sammy. Largely raced in Pennsylania and Ohio. Worked as a foreman in a welding shop in Akron and as an automobile mechanic. Swank first raced in 1924, predominantly in Ohio for the first few years. His failed qualification for Indianapolis was because a supercharger failed on his car, entered by Pop Green. Killed in a board track crash when, on a qualifying attempt, the car suddenly swerved to the right, crashed through the fencing and over the bank.
