Sadly died, after a long battle, from a cerebral oedema and HIV related problems. Proulx was the Canadian Formula Ford 2000 series winner in 1987 and this success and prize money from Player's gave Stephane a chance to compete in the International Formula 3000 series. Stephane had his moments but it didn't really turn out as all had hoped and so he then raced in Formula Atlantic and French Formula 3. He began to struggle for form from late 1992, but despite his diagnosis, he carried on racing for a while until a crash at Phoenix accelerated symptoms of his illness leading to his death later that year.
