Died of an embolism. Was also a licensed barber and the shop still remains in Danville. Often referred to as Boom Boom (indeed that is on his gravestone in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville), Larry's brother, Steve, also raced, competing in midgets. As well as racing, Cannon diversified into many other areas - he also worked as a local politician. Cannon was a regular USAC racer in the 1970's and 1980's, competing in over 40 races and had a best race finish - twice - of eight place in 1976.
