1918 dirt track champion of Canada, he often took part in events at fairgrounds and special occasions. Never really achieved a lot of luck at Indy despite many appearances there. Jules was of Norwegian ancestry and worked as an automobile mechanic before World War 1 intervened. He became an expert on dirt tracks and also on speed record attempts. After a serious crash in 1927, in which he was injured, Ellingboe retired from driving and then became district sales manager for the Stutz autmobile concern two years later.
