Later became a sheriff for Vigo County, in Indiana, but best remembered locally for his tyre company in Wabash, which he only sold as late as 1970. Despite moving to Florida, he regularly returned back to Indianapolis until his wife died in 1979. Hall reckoned he suffered 59 broken bones in a 700 odd race career, which saw him gain a reputation as a safe and consistent driver. Ira was particularly capable on dirt tracks.
