Killed in the 1919 Indy 500. Duesenberg worker and riding mechanic. Later progressed to being a racer. Survived Spanish Flu when he was in the US Navy, one of the rare few in his situation to do so. Louis, despite being labelled as a Frenchman, was American born and bred and was the youngest of fifteen children! Louis was actually of Dutch ancestry, with both his parents coming from near Amsterdam. His grandfather sailed over from Amsterdam in 1847, landing in Baltimore, Maryland. Louis worked as a riding mechanic for Ralph Mulford, Tom Alley, Eddie O'Donnell and then latterly, Eddie Hearne. In 1915 he alsojoined the J. Alex Sloan touring group of racing drivers, who barnstormed across America and Canada, racing on dirt tracks and sometimes doing stunt races and events.
