Killed in the 1919 Indianapolis 500. Relatively inexperienced racer, who was mainly a racing mechanic. Arthur sadly suffered tragedy in his life before his own demise; his infant child died in 1905. Thurman crashed on lap 44 into the northeastern wall. His riding mechanic, Nicholas Molinaro,was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries, from which he eventually recovered.
