British born, but of Danish and Jamaican parentage, Watt was one of F3000's stars and on course to be the first black-skinned driver in F1 until a motorbike accident left him paralysed, from the waist down, in 1999. He continued to race though, mainly in touring cars, using the special hand-control devices as pioneered by Regazzoni and Zanardi. In 2012, he decided to retire full-time from the sport, although he still races for fun in vintage stock-car racing in his homeland. He will now concentrate on his media career and on disability aids for drivers.
