Killed in a sprint-car crash. Stock car driver, who started racing in 1951, Allen was three time Illinois/Missouri champion in the discipline, in 1955, 1956 and then again in 1957. Later moved to sprint, dirt and big cars. In 1962 he came fourteenth in the USAC series standings with a best of fifth place. Sadly both his Indianapolis 500 attempts ended in a crash. Of Scottish ancestry on his paternal side, Crowe was killed when three cars collided, forcing Crowe to crash into a wall, with the car swiftly bursting into flames thereafter.
