Former President and CEO of Honda, becoming Honda President in 1983, and carrying on until 1990. Joined the company in 1954, and became Honda's chief engine specialist for their first attempt at Grand Prix racing and was a pioneer for water cooled engines. He started his career with the firm specialising in motorcycle engines, and in the 1960's also concentrated on Honda road car design. From 1990 until 2002, he was retained by Honda as an advisor.
