Joined Honda in 1970 shortly after qualifying with an aeronautical engineering diploma, where he initially worked on exhaust emissions. By the time Honda went back into F1, Goto was working as a chief engineer and manager, and was the man behind the outstanding success Honda engines had for about 5 years. Goto left Honda to join McLaren, but it was not a success, and he moved back to Japan to join a company called Tokyo R & D. Later returned to F1 with Ferrari and Sauber, but now runs his own engineering consultancy company.
