Initially got into the sport as a motorcyclist, but then, having got an engineering degree, returned to that aspect full-time in 1993 with Toyota. After five years there, he moved to the US, and CART, to manage Toyota's engine programme there.The engine started having great success from 2000 onwards, but by then Paschen had moved to BMW in F1, where he remained for the next 5 years.When BMW merged with Sauber in 2006, Paxhen was replaced as BMW engine head and has since been working as a freelance engineering consultant.
