Talented engineer who designed the BMW 328 Sportscar, the Bristol straight-six engine and the the BMW new class sedan. Fritz initially trained as an apprentice engineer before working his way up to join Horch in 1924, becoming their chief engineer. When Horch became Auto Union, Fritz left and joined BMW. He remained there until 1945, after working during the war on military vehicle design and development. After World War 2, Fritz moved to England to work with Bristol, before returning to Germany in 150 and then back to BMW until 1952. He was then chairman of BMW AG until 1956, and stayed with the firm directly until 1966, acting as a consultant for a further two years.
