Youngster who was a car salesman for Clarke Carter. Later became a garage owner and mechanic. Later settled in Missouri, where he turned to farming. Ellis was racing in the late 1900's, competing at Indianapolis in 1909. A works driver for Jackson for at least three seasons, Ellis had two top ten finishes at the track to his name before it became the brick oval. Ellis attended the University of Ann Arbor in Michigan, where amongst other activities, he took part in sporting events.
