Paul Stoddart
Born: |
26 May 1955 |
Nationality: |
Australia |
Teams: | Minardi (2001-2005) |
Controversial boss of Minardi, who transferred the team to Champ Car. Upon the IRL merger, he stopped running the team. He continues his business projects, however, and remains head of his aviation firm, European Aviation, as well as often appearing in the media. Stoddart was a racer at club level in Australia in the 1970's who got involved again in the sport by running a team in the BOSS Formula 1 series in the 1990's. Stoddart was then involved as a sponsor with Tyrrell and the aborted Honda F1 effort and came close to buying Jordan and Arrows, before taking over Minardi. Now Stoddart, who initially used one of his cars to run a two-seater racing car for Formula 1 events, has developed and grown this, so that it now appears at every Grand Prix from 2018 onwards, with the team having the same amount of mechanics as a small F1 racing team.
